Hate the Clay season LOL and another interview

OK, so the clay season has started, I’ve never liked this part of the season, as unfortunately Brits don’t seem to be that good on it – we do have a number of reasonable players on it though, Andy isn’t that bad, Wardy can do clay, it’s Aljaz favourite surface (so I’m told), so why don’t I like it that much!

Anyway, over in Casablanca today and Aljaz was in action in the QF and attempting to reach his first Semi final as a Brit. Sadly, it wasn’t to be as although he tried hard he went down to a breadstick in the first set. The second was much closer but the 3rd seed was just too strong for him and he lost 4-6 in the second. Not a bad tournament for his first one as a Brit though. Onwards to South of France now.

On the Challenger circuit and in St Bruiec Sean Thornley has moved into the Semi final in the doubles with a great straight sets win 6-3, 6-4.

Moving to the ITF Ciruit and in Barnstaple Naomi Broady’s great run in the singles ended today as she went out 4-6 and 5-7 but a very close match indeed, however, she is still in action in the doubles, as they defeated Mirabelle Njoze and & Rogers by serving up a double breadstick. Sarah Beth Askew and Jazzamay Drew also lost in the doubles today, they were served up a breadstick and 4-6. Over in Chiasso and Amanda Carreras had to fight hard today for the win, after losing the first set 3-6, she then levelled the match taking the second set by the same score. Into the final set and Amanda really stepped this up and took the match 6-2. In Jackson, MS Joko progressed into the next round easily, by serving up a double breadstick today. Over in Spain Matthew Short has also progressed into the next round, but again needed 3 sets to do so, he lost the first set 2-6, before really stepping things up and taking the next 2 sets 6-3, 6-3, well done Matthew. In Turkey and there was mixed results for Richard Gabb, as he lost his singles in straight sets 3-6, 2-6 but moved into the doubles final by taking that in straight sets 6-3 and a tiebreak, well done Richard.

Moving away from results for a moment, and I have another exclusive interview for Tennis Atlantic, that of British Number 6 Brydan Klein, see here http://tennisatlantic.com/2015/04/10/glenysfurness-interviews-nearly-top-200-britishaustralian-player-brydan-klein-klein_brydan/

Back to results and in the juniors Alastair Gray was in the QF over in Trinidad & Tobago as the 7th seed was aiming for the Semis. It wasn’t to be today though as he went down in straight sets 3-6, 3-6, over in France and Anastasia MIKHEEVA was in the Semi Final trying to get to the final, the 7th seed was against the 4th seed, unfortunately she wasn’t able to make the final as she went down in straight sets 5-7 and a bagel. In Malta and James Davis was not able to make the final either as he went down in straight sets to the top seed, 2-6 and a breadstick. However, Megan Davis has made the final the 2nd seed took the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
