Catching up the overnight results

So, there will be a lot of posts of this kind over the next few weeks, as we are into the US swing, and as the timezone is well frankly awful for me I’ll be doing what I can to catch up the following day.

So, starting with the US Open final qualifying round.  We had 4 trying to get into the main draw. Brydan was against Matt Ebden and this was going to be a tricky match for our lad. It proved such as Brydan did well to stay with him, however, in the end one break of serve in each set proved to be decisive and Brydan lost 3-6, 3-6 – Good to get so far though, onto Bankok now.

Kyle seeded 6th was also trying to make the main draw. In the first set he was in a bit of trouble early as he dropped serve straight away, in fact he only managed to get 2 games in the first set. The next was much more full of momentum for our lad and he didn’t lose a single game – at all.  He served up a bagel.  The final set was a fight, Kyle was 5-2 up and serving for the match when he was broken.  We had 3 match points, but unfortunately were not able to convert and his opponent won the last few games meaning Kyle went out 5-7 in the final set – There is a chance of a Lucky Loser spot for him however.

Naomi Broady was against Kontaveit, this again was a battle, after splitting the first 2 sets (the first was a tiebreak, that we lost after being 4-0 up, the 2nd was a much better set as far as the scoreline was concerned 😉 ) it all game down to the final set, Naomi gave it her all but the Lithuanian got the break needed to take the final set.

All hopes now rested with Joko. Things started well as she took the first set quite comfortably 6-3, the next set went a little wrong as far as we were concerned as it didn’t go the way we wanted, and Joko (seeded 3) lost the set, so again it was level. The final set however was better for us as Joko came through to take the win and into the main draw.

So, in the US Open Main draw there will be 6 Brits, 3 ladies and 3 men – The full line up will be

Andy Murray, Aljaz Bedene, James Ward, Heather Watson, Laura Robson & Johanna Konta

Moving over to Winston-Salem Open and we were in SF action. Dom Inglot & Lindstedt (still need a team name! ) seeded 4th they were against the all Aussie team of Sam Groth (DC possibility) and Chris Guccione. Our team secured the first set 6-4, before losing the next set by the same scoreline, so into a Champions tiebreak it went.  This was incredibly close, but we won it 11-9 to move into the final – Well done lads.
